Otherwise he would !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I never lusted after a Porsche, until I drove one. The 15 minute drive I had behind the wheel of a 996 turbo was enlightening. I get it now. Now I want one.
I know some people aren’t a fan of silver cars, but Porsche does a really nice Silver and would happily own one. Also a fan of this interior.
It is brash and I like it.
Sadly I will not be buying this as I choose continuing my pursuit of happiness instead of chasing oil money.
I did get this random thought in my head today that I should buy a 997. Maybe that’ll happen sometime.

Why does E90M3 refer to himself in the 3rd person in the title but then change perspective mid post?

A friend of mine gave me a tip on a job back in oil and gas last week. ~20% base bump and ~60% increase if the bonus paid out. Plus a company truck. Decided I didn’t want the stress and volatility, even though I DO want a GT350. Oh well. I’m sure something will be available next year if I do decide to go back working for the man.

I turned down a job last week that would have been around 150% of what I’m making now. I don’t want to work those hours but I do want a 997 turbo. I also figured if I went back to the oilfield that I was probably going to be single for the rest, or at last a substantial part, of my life. I enjoyed the job when I was there and the money was great, I just don’t want the things that go along with it.

Yeah, this would have been anywhere between 120-160% of what I make now. It wouldn’t have been in the field but would require a lot of travel and meetings. Not about that life right now. It’s not worth my happiness and I don’t *need* another car. We’ll see how my looking for a rich girl plan turns out. That’s the only way I can buy a house right now. When I abandon that plan I’ll start chasing the almighty dollar again.

There are a lot of other engineers around our age in the Greenville area, so I figured I would hopefully find someone like that.

Does the oil industry destroy dating life because of time (lack thereof) or is it not something women like to hear about as a profession?

It’s working crazy hours in the field (if you have one of those jobs). My wife and I were married right after college, and her first job was in the field on a wireline logging truck (roughly 10 days on, 5 days off). For three years, we rarely were able to take vacations together, she had to miss her brother’s wedding, and her general health went to shit (not getting enough regular sleep, eating at gas stations all the time). The money was good, as was the job experience for her career, but so glad it was just three years.

Basically what Davesaddiction said. It’s a lot of time spent away from home and it’s really hard to foster a relationship that way. Really the only girls I interacted with were also at my company.

Oh gosh. I can see why you got out of the industry. At least the pay is good for the compromises you make!

Oh my! That’s legitimately scary! I guess at least the pay was good, but otherwise it sounds like a huge strain on life.
